Did-I-MENSION???

Did-I- MENSION how many Cricut cartridges have awesome 3-dimensional boxes and cuts?  Well, if not, THEY DO!  I have bought so many cartridges because it has a cute treat box that I just HAVE to make and then...never do.  Well, today my challenge for you this National Scrapbook Day holiday is to crack open one of those cartridges (that you just might still have in it's clam shell) and get to creating a 3-D box, bag, or more.

The cartridge I challenged myself to create with was Garden Soup.  I fell in love with all the honeycomb and hexagon boxes and knew they would make the cutest treat holders.

Directions for honeycomb box:

Cut your honeycomb and score at the designated slots.  Glue the 3 panel cut directly behind the 3 panels on the honeycomb with open slots.  Glue the bottom panel onto the inside of the middle panels.  Ink if desired.

I wasn't sure what the slit was for.  You sometimes come across these questionable cuts, slits and holes and have to play around with them to find their usage.  My first instinct (as always) is to add ribbon!  =)  I pulled some ribbon through to create a holder for the hive that would allow it to hang.  Then I thought that that was probably not what the hole was for and went back to the book.

On another key, I found this hexagon.  The shift to this same key creates a handle as well, but it's square.  Ah ha!  That is what the slit was for!

Attach the handle hexagon to the bottom of your honeycomb lid with the handle pulled through the slit.

OK, I can't get away from the ribbon.  The newly added handle made a perfect loop for me to tie my seam binding around!  I also added some Stampin' Up! Champagne glass glitter and  a beaded hat pin from my stash.

I also cut two matching tags.  One is a To/From tag and the other a honeybee.  I added the glitter to the bees stinger and antennae.
Directions for Hexagon Box (lid attached):

For my second box, I tried to keep it as simple as I could (I know, I just have to add embellishments).

This box comes with the attached lid as well.  I cut the base and scored the box.

There are several (about 100 images) hexagons to choose from to add to your top.  Images include vegetables, gardening equipment, and even phrases.  Lots to choose from to make it as unique as you would like.

Here is a picture of the box opened up.  It would be best to use a double sided piece of cardstock so that your inside looks just as cute as the outside.  I believe the flap should tuck to the inside, but I wanted to add a button for embellishment.  I added velcro to keep it closed up.
Hexagon Box with Separate Lid:

I wanted to make this box really "pop", so I cut the black bee base twice so that I could bend the legs down and the wings up.

Again, there are over a 100 hexagon tops to choose from (including the phrases).  There are three different borders too.  I used the honeycomb, but there is a leave border (seen in the wheelbarrow box) and a beehive border as well.

The beehive tag is just too cute!  I stamped a quick sentiment to add to the tag as well.

This box has a separate lid as seen opened up here.
There is a box with a separate lid on this cartridge that is super cute and two other boxes as well (same shapes), but they are separated into two pieces in order to be able to create bigger size boxes.

So, now it's your turn!  Please link up a newly created 3-dimensional box, bag or more for a chance to win a $20 gift card of your choice to either Joannes, Michael's, or Hobby Lobby.  Or, you can choose a cartridge from my stash.  You have until next Saturday (5-11-13) to link your project up.  I will use Random.org to select a winner on Sunday, 5-12-13.

Happy creating!
