Circle Mania Class

There is a Cricut Circle meet-up this weekend in Atlanta and I thought I would put together a class for all my fellow Circlets.  Here is what we will be making during the class:

BANNER:
1. Using black ink, ink the edges (if desired) of the smaller triangular banner pieces and adhere to the larger banner pieces, altering the pattern from right side up to upside down.

2. Cut 12” from the black tulle strand and set aside. Now use the larger piece left and weave the first banner piece on starting from front to back, then back to front and repeat until all 7 banner piece are aligned and evenly spaced across the tulle. There should be about 12 inches left hanging from each side (about a 1 ½” space between banner pieces).
3. Using the ivory colored tulle, cut off 8 4” pieces. Tie a simple knot at each end of the banner and between each banner piece.
4. Starting with the second banner, adhere the letter “S” to the center of the banner and continue adhering one letter to each banner piece until the word “SCARY” is complete.
5. Take the two pieces of beige netting and adhere as desired to the two end pieces.
6. Take the owl and pumpkin cuts and layer them together. I used the checkerboard pattern of the smaller pumpkin and the webbed pattern of the larger pumpkin for the top layer of each.
7. Pop dot the assembled cuts to the outer pieces of the banner as desired. Take the 3 bat cuts and layer them onto the banner letter pieces as desired (I used the webbed side).
8. Add rhinestones to the lettering at the joints and ends.

SCRAPBOOK PAGE:
1. Begin with the 12” x 12” scrapbook page. Cut the branding portion off the bottom.

2. Take the 11” black ribbon and adhere to the page just above the “memories” box.
3. Take the 12” title strip and cut off the vertical lettering portion. Center on top of the 11” black ribbon and adhere.
4. Adhere the doily piece to the bottom left corner, leaving the black border showing.
5. Fussy cut a piece of black cardstock onto the back of the lettering “OCTOBER” of the white OCTOBER 31 circle cut. Using black ink, ink the edges and lettering (if desired).
6. Adhere the white OCTOBER 31 circle cut to the orange and black patterned circle.
7. Using black ink, ink the edges of the white 31 numbers and adhere to the right portion of the circle cut. Add rhinestones to the numbering at the joints and ends.
8. Adhere the completed OCTOBER 31 cut to the top of the doily as desired.
9. Take the two 4x6 black cardstock mats and adhere to the page above the black 11” ribbon as desired.

CARD:
1. Adhere the black polka dotted 4” x 5 ¼” mat to the A2 sized kraft colored card base, ensuring the white polka dot closest to the edge is in the top left most corner (this is your moon).

2. Using black ink, ink the edges of the scallop (if desired).
3. Take the “chic” witch silhouette and fussy cut the circle off (the portion off her hat and the portion off her shoes).
4. Center to and adhere the “chic” witch to the scallop.
5. Take the black seam binding and tie a double bow around the scallop, just below the “chic” witches’ dress.
6. Align, and adhere the phrase scallop to the right side of the black polka dot mat (leaving the kraft border showing).
7. Layer the white “31” semi circle on top of the solid black semi circle and adhere to the left bottom corner of the card, leaving the kraft border showing.
8. Adhere the large rhinestone to the center of the double bow.
9. Add rhinestones to the numbering at joints and ends.

TREAT BAG or LUMINARY: 1. Take the diamond patterned box cut and score along edges to create the sides and bottom.

2. Take the gray vellum square and adhere to the inside of the owl portion (lined). Ensure the matte finish faces out.
3. Assemble the box using your favored adhesive medium (I like using score tape for my boxes because the adhesive keeps the boxes together).
4. Using black ink, ink the box edges (if desired).
5. Using the 12” black tulle set aside from the banner project; tie the two handles together in a bow.
6. Using black ink, ink the edges of the “TREAT” tag (if desired).
7. Take the “TREAT” tag and tie on to the black tulle in a bow using the copper colored cord.
8. Using the rhinestones, embellish as desired. I added three rhinestones to the bottom most left corner.
9. Fill the box with treats to give to someone special or display it with a battery operated tea light candle.

CCR Weekly Free Cut, Bookmark - Classics

This week, Provo Craft has enabled free use of the Cricut Craft Exclusive, Bookmark - Classics.  I love these free exclusives because they really entice me to try them out.  I am often pleasantly surprised that there is a cut I didn't even know about.  I have been playing with a few of the bookmarks.  This is my first:

I wanted the bookmark to have a quilt feel to it, so I sewed the edges.  The images were flood filled from them Imagine cartridge Floral Emporium.

This is the backside.  I embossed it with a flower folder and tied simple knots like the quilts my grandma used to make.  The knots were made using a really fine pure silk embroidery trim.

I cut the first layer twice and cut out the silhouettes so I could pop dot them on for a little dimension and then I had to make myself STOP!  I wanted to embellish more, but had to remember that it IS a bookmark and that I had to keep it thin.
You should check the file out:  Bookmark - Classics  and maybe try a few.  If you made them bigger, they could easily transform into great themed scrapbook pages AND you could embellish them a lot more!  :P  I had a lot of fun with the Alice in Wonderland bookmark.  I hope to post it soon...

Life's a Beach ~ Cricut FANatics Post

Hi Everyone.  Today is my first post on the new Cricut inspired blog Cricut FANatics.  We were challenged to create something with an "end of summer" theme this month.  For my post, I created a 3D photo frame to display a favorite summer picture in:

I used the Imagine cartridge Word of Mouth for my image cuts.  I cut them at 4.5" and selected the "layers" option.

Did you know that this cartridge has 3 different 3-D frames on it?  This is the first frame cut at "fit to page".

It's super easy to create.  Just cut, score at the provided lines and glue!  Note: If you flood fill an image with a different pattern, you will lose the provided scoring lines and will need to score at your discretion.  I used the provided pattern because it matched perfectly with my theme.  I also added a background mat cut at 4" x 5.5".
I pop dotted all the layers and of course, I added ribbon. I just LOVE ribbon!

I hope you enjoyed this post and are inspired to try one of these frames out.  They are super fun and easy and a lot less expensive then going to the store and buying one.  Hey, that's another great justification to hubby for buying cartridges...your saving money on frames, right? ;)

Calling Card 2012

Ok Circlets.  Here is my calling card for this year:

The skull is from the Cricut Craft Room Exclusive Zombies and the phrase is from the Cricut cartridge Phrases.

Of course, I had to embellish...  I added glitter to the skull and "you", zebra ribbon, embossed with the Swiss Dots folder and finally added a rhinestone to the bow.
Just thought I would share a sneak peak with what I am creating for Circle Mania.  Can't wait to see everyone and meet new friends!

Oh, and here is the CCR file.  It is easily changed into a 3x3 mini gift tag simply by using a piece of 3"x6" black cardstock folded in half for the base:

Provo Craft Create a Critter 2 Contest ~ Fall Wall Art

Provo Craft is running a contest using the new Create a Critter 2 cartridge.  They have given us free use of four of the "critters" to craft with.

To enter, submit the project to Cricut Project Center™ at http://www.cricut.com/project , while logged into your own account. The submitted project must include the use of the Create a Critter 2 cartridge images. Project submitted must display the use of the Create a Critter 2 images

Here is what I came up with:

Home decor wall art.
Materials Used:
  • Cricut cartridge Create a Critter 2
  • Imagine cartridges Enjoy the Seasons and Word of Mouth
  • White American Craft cardstock
  • Stampin' Up! Espresso cardstock
  • cloud 9 Design Seasonal paper pad
  • Embossing folders Swiss Dot and Square Lattice
  • Ranger Distress Ink in Walnut Stain, Crushed Olive, Antique Linen & Festive Berries
  • Green rhinestones
  • Stampin' Up! corduroy buttons in Pumpkin Pie
  • Stampin' Up! hodgepodge hardware in pewter
  • White linen thread
  • Fall ribbon from my stash
  • Pop dots
Using the Imagine cartridge Enjoy the Seasons, flood fill the box frame from Word of Mouth with the fall/acorn pattern at 8"H.  Cut the box frame 4x.  Score at intervals.

Add hardware to hold the frame.  I used a picture/ribbon holder held by a brad.

Mat your selected papers and adhere to the inside of the frame.  I cut my outside layer at 4.75" and my inside layer at 4.5". Add faux stitching if desired.  Next, you simply fold in at all the score lines to create a 3D frame.  I used hot glue to adhere my folds together.

I cut the acorn (pg 4 accessory and accessory) at 4" H.  I then embossed the yellow portion  with the Swiss Dot folder and the brown portion with the Square Lattice folder.  I pop dotted the brown portion on and completed the look with a linen thread bow and green rhinestone.  I also added a fall ribbon bow, linen thread bow, and corduroy button to each frame to help unify the frames.

I cut the tree (pg 4 Icon, Icon, Icon Layer, Icon Layer) at 4"H.  I inked all the edges with Ranger distress ink and completed the look with a linen bow and green rhinestones to the eyes.

I cut the word fall (pg 4 Phrase) at 2" H and completed the look with a linen thread bow and green rhinestones added to the letter ends.

The squirrel (pg 4 Squirrel, Squirrel, Layer, Layer, Shadow) at 4".  I added some faux stitching, a linen bow to the hat and green rhinestones to the eyes.  All the layers were pop dotted on.

Pin-Up Girls Series ~ Flirt

Today is the last day in the Pin-up Girls Series.  I created all of these cards as a birthday present for my bestie.  She loves pin-up girls and I thought it would make a fun and unique gift.

The negligee is cut from the Cricut cartridge Sweethearts.  I embossed the darker pink layer and sewed my pink ribbon on.  I added a single seam binding ribbon in white and a white linen thread tie as well.

To create the lace texture of the negligee, I cut it in pink cardstock, red cardstock, and pink vellum.  I started with the pink cardstock and then added the red cardstock for the bra portion.  Next, I embossed the pink vellum.  When you emboss vellum, it creates a lot of texture because the raised portion turns lighter (even when using clear or white vellum).  This technique really added to this cut because it really made it look like lace.  I then sprayed the negligee with SmoochSpritz in a pearl finish and added mini Stampin' Up! pearls to the bra portion to complete the look.

If you are wondering where I purchased the pin-up girl pins, I bought them on EBAY:

I hope you have enjoyed viewing this series as much as I had creating it!  Thank you for visiting daily and leaving such lovely comments.  Happy Creating!

Pin-Up Girls Series ~ Cougar

I love the dramatic feel of this card.  The large sentiment cut is from Word of Mouth.  It drove how I selected the other embellishments.

The bust is cut from the Cricut cartridge French Manor.

I used black seam binding, an antique button, and added a few sewing lines for embellishments.

Cougar: She has a fear of aging.

Please join me tomorrow to view the last card in the Pin-Up Girls Series.
